Morzine
and the Portes du Soliel is as vibrant in the summer as in winter,
offering a variety of Alpine sports and pastimes.
Walking
There are hundreds of miles of marked mountain trails suitable
for all levels of walkers. Locally there are scenic walks around
lake Montriond, or you can venture further a field and follow the
old "resistance" route all the way to Switzerland.
Mountain Biking (VTT - Velo Tout Terrain)
This is very popular through the summer and the mountain
lifts are open and will carry bikes! So you don't have to wear yourself
out completely to appreciate the big down hill routes. There are
many graded routes ranging from easy to extreme - including the
course used in the 2004 VTT World Cup.
Horse Riding
The Montriond livery and the Morzine equestrian centre
are just a few minutes away. Offering Alpine Hacks with optional
overnight excursions to mountain refuges for experienced riders,
and introductory rides and lessons for beginners and intermediates.
They have horses to suit all including Shetland style ponies and
donkeys for children.
Golf
There is a 9 hole Golf course in Avoriaz and an 18 hole
course in Les Gets. Both hire golf clubs and offer daily membership.
Swimming
and Water Park
Lake Montriond has a special area set-aside for swimmers
which is monitored by a life guard. It is a great place for a picnic
and there are several cafes. There is also a water park which charges
€7 for a day's admission - again, a great place for a picnic.
Canyoning
If you are feeling adventurous, you can follow the canyons
created by the mountain streams, abseil down waterfalls and swim
through mountain lakes.
White Water Rafting
There are many rivers locally open for white water rafting,
canoeing and even the new sport of "hovering". Basically
you lie on a giant float and go and shoot the rapids.
